FC Dynamo ROC BU18 Repeat as Ramapo College Showcase Champions

FC Dynamo ROC BU18 opened their competitive season in great fashion, defending their 2014 Championship with 4 clean sheets in 4 games to win the 2015 Ramapo College Showcase (Nov 21-22, 2015),

In their opening match v Middlepath United (NYE), FC Dynamo ROC dominated possession and won 2-0 on a brace from newcomer Alex Ricci. The defense lead by Ryan Hair, JJ Marshall, Nick Burns, Zach Mullally, with long time team member Will Marshall “guesting” while on break from Syracuse University, were solid in limiting scoring opportunities on GK Brian Wilkin.

In their 2nd match FC Dynamo ROC won 1-0  vs a very good NJSA Ajax team (NJ), after a 50 yard run through the NJSA defense and past the on-rushing GK from the HCM position by Matt McArthur midway through the 2nd half. While FC Dynamo ROC once again controlled the match tempo with great ball control by central MF’s Matt McArthur, Simon Garno, and Coltan Goodwine, NJSA Ajax provided a much more competitive match, despite good pressure on and around the goal from FC Dynamo.

On Sun, FC Dynamo once again controlled the tempo and possession vs a hard-working Guilderland United FC Dutchman (NYE) side, but some missed finishing opportunities saw the game tied 0-0 with just under 3 minutes to play. Simon Garno whipped in a near post ball off a CK to Frankie Viavattene who had beaten his man and flicked the ball on to Ryan Hair for the finish. Frankie scored another goal before the final whistle to give FC Dynamo ROC the 2-0 victory.

In their final game of the showcase, FC Dynamo ROC faced their toughest opponent of the weekend v North Plainfield United SC (NJ). In a very physical match, and with FC Dynamo needing just a tie to put themselves in the advantaged tie breaking position v North Plainfield, FC Dynamo showed they were equally prepared to mix it up in a more defensive battle. FC Dynamo took a deeper line of confrontation, with forwards Zack Koons and Dan Kalke pressuring the back 4 of North Plainfield. The pressure was effective, along with good collective defending by FC Dynamo ROC. GK Brian Wilkin was again perfect in nets, committing early to snuff at a few dangerously served balls into the box. The game ended 0-0, and FC Dynamo ROC were awarded the showcase championship based on their superior goal differential (+5 v +3 for North Plainfield).

FC Dynamo ROC BU18 Coach Garno stated “Congrats to North Plainfield on a good tournament. They are a very good team, but our team was fantastic in our initial outing this weekend. Our team defense and tempo/ball control were very good and keys to our performance. I thought we were consistent in our work rate and played well for each other.”
